HOW THE SCORE WORKS
The Ommatidia Score
A fighter’s best recent wins, weighted by opposition, minus recent losses. There is no maximum score. The minimum is zero.
This is a fighter performance rating—not a fan vote or a Fight Night prediction-points total.
The calculation, in order
- Choose the score’s as-of date. Keep documented wins and losses less than four scoring years old.
- For each win, add its opponent-tier base and eligible bonuses.
- Multiply that value by its time weight and repeat-opponent weight.
- Sort those adjusted wins from highest to lowest. Multiply each by its résumé-position weight, then add them.
- Subtract every loss’s tier penalty multiplied by its time weight.
- Round the total once to the nearest integer, with exact halfway ties going to the even integer. If negative, use zero.
Score = max(0, round(weighted wins − weighted losses))
1. Opponent strength
Use the opponent’s assigned tier at the time of that fight, in their own division—not their current rank, the fighter’s own rank, or today’s official UFC list.
| Opponent tier | Win | Loss |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Elite: division ranks 1–5 | 130 | −25 |
| 2 · Ranked: division ranks 6–20 | 100 | −35 |
| 3 · Established: other tracked opponents | 55 | −50 |
| 4 · Outside the scoring roster | 25 | −70 |
A tier is an input, not something the final score uniquely reveals. To reproduce a published score, use the tier recorded in each fight’s breakdown. Some assigned tiers are reconstructed; an opponent missing from a roster is not necessarily a weak opponent. Unknown historical tiers cannot safely be guessed from today’s rankings.
In a dated division table, tied scores share a competition rank (1, 2, 2, 4). Opponents outside the table’s 18-calendar-month activity window receive Tier 3. That tier-table window is separate from the rating’s four-year window and P4P eligibility.
2. Win bonuses
- Primary title: +40 only against a Tier 1 or Tier 2 opponent. Interim, secondary and one-night tournament belts do not qualify.
- KO, TKO or submission: +20 against Tiers 1–3; +5 against Tier 4.
- A qualifying primary-title finish receives both bonuses. A decision receives no finish bonus.
- A disqualification win receives the tier base only—no title or finish bonus. A disqualification loss receives the normal tier penalty.
Bonuses are added before time, repeat-opponent and résumé-position weights.
3. Time weights
Scoring age = whole days from the fight date to the as-of date ÷ 365.25. Use this weight for both wins and losses:
| Scoring age | Multiply by |
|---|---|
| Less than 1 year | 1.00 |
| At least 1, less than 2 years | 0.90 |
| At least 2, less than 3 years | 0.75 |
| At least 3, less than 4 years | 0.55 |
| 4 years or older, or future-dated | 0 · exclude |
These are discrete steps, not a daily percentage reduction. Scores describe their as-of date; they are not a continuously ticking live total.
4. Repeat-opponent weights
Count wins over the same opponent chronologically inside the scoring window. The first receives ×1.00, the second ×0.50, and every later win ×0.25. Losses do not advance this count. Match the opponent consistently across spelling variations.
Adjusted win = (base + title bonus + finish bonus) × time weight × repeat weight.
5. Résumé-position weights
Sort the adjusted wins highest first, then apply these weights. This is their position in the fighter’s résumé—not the opponent’s division rank.
| Win position | Weight | Win position | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.00 | 7 | 0.34 |
| 2 | 0.85 | 8 | 0.27 |
| 3 | 0.72 | 9 | 0.20 |
| 4 | 0.60 | 10 | 0.14 |
| 5 | 0.50 | 11 | 0.10 |
| 6 | 0.42 | 12 | 0.07 |
| 13 and every later win | 0.05 | ||
Losses do not receive résumé-position or repeat weights. Add all in-window loss penalties after applying time weights.
Work it through
Example A: three different opponents, no earlier fights. Two wins and one loss, all less than one scoring year old:
- Elite primary-title finish: 130 + 40 + 20 = 190.
- Ranked decision: 100 × 0.85 as the second-best win = 85.
- Loss to a Ranked opponent: subtract 35.
190 + 85 − 35 = 240
Example B: three finishes over one Ranked opponent. All less than one year old, with no other fights or title bonuses. Each base-plus-finish value is 120. Repeats reduce those to 120, 60 and 30. Résumé weights then give:
120 × 1 + 60 × 0.85 + 30 × 0.72 = 192.6 → 193
Keep full precision between steps. The score is rounded only at the end; adding rounded numbers shown on individual fight rows can differ slightly from the final total. Exact .5 ties round to even: 240.5 → 240; 241.5 → 242.
What would raise a fighter’s score?
A stronger opponent, a qualifying title win, a finish or a new opponent can add more credit. To calculate a proposed result, add it to the existing history and re-sort the whole win list: a new best win moves the others down a slot.
For Example A, a new Tier 2 finish over a different opponent, at the same scoring date, changes the win list to 190, 120, 100. The result becomes 190 + 102 + 72 − 35 = 329—an increase of 89, not 120.
At a fixed date, adding a win cannot reduce the score. Between dates, aging wins can lose weight or leave the window. Aging losses can also shrink. The zero floor and final rounding can hide small improvements.
A score is not P4P eligibility
The P4P board includes fighters carrying Active and Proven status, then orders them by score. Equal scores are ordered by name. The division browser also includes other tracked fighters.
The activity criterion is a fight within one year. Proven eligibility requires an in-window win over a fight-night Tier 1 or 2 opponent whose own Proven standing does not depend on the fighter being assessed. Two fighters cannot qualify solely by proving one another.
Board inclusion uses recorded status labels, not the score alone. A label can lag the underlying evidence; an Unproven label is not a claim that a fighter lacks ability or that every qualifying result is known.
What you need to check a real score
Open a fighter’s name on Fighters. Use the as-of date and the complete scoring-window history: opponent identities, fight dates, win/loss result, assigned opponent tiers, method and primary-title eligibility. Include smaller wins as well as the best wins; use full-precision weights.
No-contests add no win/loss credit. Draws are not wins or losses, and the calculation above does not apply an automatic draw award or weight-miss deduction. Those cases require a separate assessment. If historical inputs are incomplete, a score can remain pending; pending is not zero. A reliable tier history is necessary to calculate a reliable rating.
